Carwyn's smile grew. "Your first mistake was assuming that annoying your superiors makes you more susceptible to living."
Carwin cracked his hands together and spread them out, forming a seven foot long katana. Heat emanated from the crackling blade, burning the very air around it. He leapt high into the air, swinging the blade down at a diagonal angle into a tree. Small flames erupted from the dry bark as it split into two. A section of the tree began to fall towards Cass, bursting into a inferno during its descent.

Cass swore profusely and ducked to the ground, rolling as she hit the leaves. The trunk landed less than a foot from her. I'm getting too tired. This is bad. Way bad. She exhaled, and sprinted in the opposite direction of the Angel. She could see it ahead of her, the blue steel glinting from the growing fire. With her one good hand clenched tightly around the hilt, she slowly pulled the blade from the trunk that ensnared it. With expert handling, she flipped it so she had it in an offensive position. Despite the pain, Cass gingerly pulled something from inside her jacket. "This isn't intended for you, Angel, but you've pushed me to this!" she called, her voice tight.

Carwyn tossed an orb of energy downwards, breaking it apart in mid-air and causing miniscule shots of energy to pitter against the ground. "What exactly do you have planned?" He sneered.

Her hand shaking from the exhaustion and pain, Cass pulled out a pistol and aimed it at the Angel. "This was never intended for your kind," she whispered as she pulled the trigger.

Carwyn rolled out of the way, the bullet grazing his good wing. He roared in rage, pain flaring through his synapses. He grimaced, the smile no longer on his face. "I felt like continuing this game of cat and mouse, hunter, but you've left me with only a handful of options."
Carwyn diffused the sword and focused the energy into twin orbs in his hands. He gently placed each at the bottoms of his bare feet, then created two more. He shoved both of these into his kneecaps, the pain being offset by the returning look of accomplishment in his eyes. "The funny thing about us baraq wielders is that the energy which harms you--"
Carwyn winced in pain.
"--can be used to speed up the synaptic reactions in our bodies." His smile returned, gaining an almost insane quality. His legs spasmed as every muscle began to move on overload. In a flash, he took off across the field, the orbs on his feet acting as a points of immense traction. He sprinted across the clearing, reforming the sword in his hand. "Put a bullet in this!" he bellowed.

Cass dropped the katana into the ground as the flames crept higher into the dry foliage. Everything slowed as she smelled the blood in the air from the Angel's wing. Blood lust. Shit.. Her vision hazed over, and her instincts clawed against her rational. In the remaining seconds she had, she utilized her heightened senses, and with careful precision, she frowned at the Angel and aimed. "Gladly," she said before firing five rounds

Carwyn nimbly hopped to the side, digging his feet into the dirt. "I hope that wasn't a six shooter" he jibed. He took off again, moving like lightning across the forest's burning underbrush. The flames reflected off his white body, and highlighted his only good wing. The feathers had become matted and disfigured. The snow white extension had turned almost entirely crimson.
He swung out at Cass, slicing the air in front of her. "Tis a shame you dropped your sword," he remarked. "I was looking forward to shattering it into splinters of useless metal."
He circled around again, leaping in the air and turning as he did so. His sword drew a wide arc toward Cass's head, the sword slicing at her gun.

Cass surrendered to her instincts. In a flash, she dropped to the ground and flattened herself. As the Angel streaked by, she reached out and snared him, throwing him to the ground. In a moment, he was pinned under her. It was as if she'd gained more strength than she had at the beginning of the fight. "Angel blood. Nasty stuff. Almost poison for a full Vampire." She grinned, her fangs glinting from the fire. "Good thing I'm not a purebred," she said, finally looking him in the eyes. Her irises had turned completely black. With deft strength that seemed improbable from her condition and size, she wrenched his head to the side and bit into the main artery.

Carwyn's immediate horror turned to a look of glee. "The little things you keep forgetting, my dear."
He dissipated the energy from the bottoms of his feet and retracted the sword into his hand. He grunted and forced every ounce of energy inward.
"This technique is usually used to fend off hypothermia in higher altitudes and colder climates, but its purpose will be as useful here." His veins began to burn. With every pump of his heart, more and more energy began to fuse into his bloodstream. Blood poured out through the artery in his neck, turning into a boiling geyser of heat and lightning. Streams splattered against the human's flesh, sizzling and burning through like acid.
Then with a final heave, a burst of energy in its purest state exploded from the wound in his neck. the force caused a blinding light, forcing Carwyn to close his eyes and shrink away for a moment. The flare of energy dissipated, the clearing now entirely ablaze. He saw his attacker crouched roughly twenty yards away. Carwyn knelt on one good knee, then placed a small orb in both of his hands. He gently burned the wound on his neck shut.
"I think it is about time that I put an end to this petty fight. I do tire of playing with my food."

"Blech. You taste awful, Angel." Cass wiped her tongue on her sleeve. "No wonder why they say an Angel's blood is akin to poison." She stood, indifferent to her many different injuries. Blood trailed down her face and neck, and her clothing was torn all over, exposing seared flesh and open wounds.

Carwyn stood up on both feet, his hands aglow with sparkling energy. "I've had...enough." he wheezed. "Enough."
The orbs in each hand grew and enveloped each hand. His normally grinning face carried a look of hatred. With a grunt he lept from the ground and lunged at the human in front of him. Time seemed to slow. In a series of smooth, fluid movements, his hands shot in and out of flesh like hot daggers through butter. With nary a change in facial expression, he fully circled her body, littering it in burns, gaping wounds, and blood. In a final blow, he channeled the energy in his hands to his elbow, creating a point the size of a marble at its tip. His elbow connected with the small of her neck, knocking her to her feet. In only a few seconds, he had let loose a flurry of blows saved only for those who he deemed as his equal.
Carwyn paused to catch his breath. After a few long moments, he gathered himself and stood erect.
"Now, about that talk..."

Cass' eyes changed back to her human hazel as she fell to her knees, her strength visibly disappearing. Shakily, she tried to pull herself to her feet. Between the loss of blood, and the drain of energy from her Vampire instincts and the fight itself, she managed to pull herself up for only a second before she again collapsed. "Well played," she said, laughing weakly.

Carwyn stepped around the human's slumped frame and knelt a foot from her head.
"I...I heard only from secondhand sources. I never knew the whole story. I still do not believe I am ready for it, but the curiosity tugs at me every day. Now that I know who you are, and what you did, I want to know."
Carwyn's uncharacteristically calm tone carried more weight than any roar he had managed to form before.
"How...why did Asthore deserve to die?"

Cass looked down, ashamed. "We couldn't heal him," she whispered. "He wasn't supposed to die. He was. . He was just a kid. He wasn't supposed to die."

Carwyn grinned. "He was sixty-three. Definitely not a kid by your standards, but the fact that you recognized his youth in our years makes me think slightly better of you, hunter. Slightly."
Carwyn backed away a few steps and sat in the soot below him. "Were you the one?"
