Cass swore profusely and blocked the blow to her face. "Jack!" she shouted. "Jack, dammit!" She received no reply, and twisted the angel's arm behind her back. With a small gimace, she popped the shoulder from its joint. Then angel dropped to its knees. Cass grunted as she snapped it's neck. Another angel dropped in front of her, small white globes of light in his hands. Cass wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth before she drew her sword and faced her new opponent.

Carwyn raised his hand far above his head, clutching an orb of pure radiant energy. He focused his available energy into the racquetball-sized sphere in his palm. With a roar he swung outward, tossing the crackling globe towards the slayer in front of him. A near miss flew just over the target, crashing into the ground. The orb suddenly expanded to forty times its normal size, alabaster light swirling before imploding in on itself. The radius barely singed his attacker's back, a crater left behind in the brutal attack's wake.
Carwyn nimbly leaped backwards. I must focus more, he thought. An attack like that can not be performed with such carelessness twice.

Cass yelped in pain, but pushed the sensation aside. She crouched low to the ground and pursued the Angel. Her blue-steel blade was concealed in the folds of her cloak as she leaped from the ground. Over the Angel's head, she drew the blade in a fast, downward strike. The metal bit into the Angel's shoulder, and in a decisive movement, she twisted the blade and removed it from the being's shoulder. A light landing and a spin later, she had the blade to the Angel's neck, and the Angel held another orb of magic.

Carwyn thrust his hand forward, a pulsating luminous shield surrounding his forearm. He placed it in position to block the blade should the human make any sudden moves. Rage filled him as pain erupted from the wound on his shoulder. His irises turned and glowed, a deep blood red replacing their usual light pink. "Lower your blade, or it will be the last thing you see on this plane of existence." A ripple flowed upwards along his fingertips, a crackling sound rising from his knuckles.

Cass frowned and dropped the sword. In a moment of either sheer genius or sheer stupidity, she used her lack of stature to maneuver underneath his outstretched arms. A small hand blade found its way into her hand, and she pressed it against the Angel's jugular. Her face rested mere centimeters from his as she whispered, "Yield."

Carwyn swiftly slid his neck to the side, the blade nicking the opposite side of his slender neck, blood trickling down his chest. His eyes beat in time with his rapid heart; a hand shot up and grasped the wrist of the tiny human, energy crackling over her grip. The metal blade conducted the energy tenfold, burning her hand and causing it to drop to the ground. Carwyn twisted his body in mid-air, spinning and turning the human's arm. The momentum spun her around, tossing her to her back. Carwyn embraced his body, then arched his back and thrusted his arms behind him. A nearly-lucid white pulse emanated from his person, skittering the human's weapons. He walked to her body and again held a concentrated, racquet-ball sized orb. This time held a millimeter from her forehead.
"IF I SO MUCH AS LOOSEN MY GRIP, YOU DIE. YIELD."

God dammit, Jack, where are you!? Cass thought. She looked behind her. The rest of the battle was far away from herself and the angel. She closed her eyes, and slumped. "I yield," she mouthed. Nathaniel. . .

Carwyn closed his fist and sharply inhaled, absorbing the vast amount of energy back into his frail frame. "Wise decision, human."
He opened his hand again, binding the human's wrists, ankles, and mouth. He scooped her up with his arms, wincing in pain as too much of the load was shifted onto his inured shoulder. He slumped her over his good shoulder and leaped to the air. "Don't worry about your pointy objects," he sneered. "We'll make sure to keep them as far away from your allies and my enemies as possible." He flew over the battle, scanning the scene below. Several of his comrades had cornered a human male, yet far more angel blood was being spilled than human blood.

Cass seethed and struggled enough to be a nuisance, but not enough to force him to drop her. She craned her neck back long enough to see Jack make his escape. Good, she thought. Let him find Nicky. She swallowed, and turned forward, blinking back the evidence of the knot of fear that was growing in her stomach. I'm coming home, Nathaniel.
Jack's head shot up at the rustle of wings overhead. A small bundle sat in a departing angel's arms-- No. Cass. Jack grimaced and looked at the remaining four angels. In a swift movement, he turned on his heel and ran. He had a reserve of gasoline. He could find Cass. He could find the damned Angel.

<!>
Carwyn's steps echoed across the ancient floors beneath him. Dark Angels flitted back and forth before him, rushing from corner to corner, noiselessly relaying information to all areas of the empty cathedral. Many stopped in the air, pausing to look queerly at Carwyn, the black sheep of the group. He took step after step, the sounds bouncing back and forth between crumbling pillars.
He slammed open the giant door leading into the inner sanctuary. His bare feet are callused from repeated and similar kickings in the past. Carywn walked over to the confessional and haphazardly tossed the human inside, double-padlocking the door. He stepped inside the other half and sat down, the reinforced mesh screen separating him from the human's struggling body. He diffused the energy around her mouth, freeing her to speak.
"Alright human, we are now having a casual palaver. I ask you: What do you think you were doing, walking through an area we have expressly forbidden humans from treading? What possessed you to tread into our lands, armed to the teeth, and even attack one of my own? Are you a fool? Are you cloddish? Perhaps you are neither of these; perhaps you are here for purposes beyond simply walking. Perhaps the feeble attack you threw upon our ranks was something more than a miscalculated action carried out when the odds were still two humans to supposedly one dark angel."

Cass looked at him and arched a brow. With exaggerated irritation, she turned away from him without a word.

Carwyn sighed heavily. "Human, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. The easy way may result in your footsteps echoing throughout those halls and out that door, followed closely by mine as I escort you out of our home. The hard way only carries my footsteps to the ears of my brother and sisters. I suggest you communicate more than childish indignancy."
He clenched his fist slightly, the bonds around the human's wrists and ankles tightening very faintly.

Cass didn't grimace or even acknowledge the change in pressure. "I'm surprised you don't know me," she murmured. "I'm at the top of all the lists." Her cold eyes turned to him, locking on his gaze. Recognition flickered in his eyes. "One of the last True Slayers. It seems my body is failing me. Even a year ago I could have handled a pack of you beasts easily." She sighed and leaned back. "But no longer, apparently."

Carwyn peered through the mesh, attempting to focus in on the figure in the neighboring booth. When their eyes met, his entire body jerked.
Sindra.
An explosion rocked the cathedral's inner sanctuary, the altar shaking in its place at the top of a short flight of stone steps. Splintered wood spiraled through the air, metal and lumber skittering across the floor. The entire confessional booth was gone, existing only as shards of useless debris. Carwyn once again stood over the human's figure, bound on the floor. He held a softball-sized orb, crackling with barely-controlled energy.
"RECOMMEND TO ME ONE REASON AS TO WHY I SHOULD NOT TURN YOUR BODY INTO ASH UPON MY FLOOR.!" Carwyn stopped and attempted to compose himself in front of the crowd that had poured in.
"You. You have killed more of my friends than I can count on any appendage of my body. You have taken from me close allies, great warriors, more than you could ever begin to imagine. What do you think could prevent me from inserting this sphere into a place which would undoubtedly be unable to recognize something akin to a shining sun?"

Cass' eyes grew cold. "I was protecting my family and my friends. I protected my people. I would continue to kill your people if it means the salvation of mine." Her hands numbed and her jaw clenched. "Kill me now, if you so please. It's just one more black mark against your soul when you yourself are killed you mindless, selfish piece of trash." Blood trailed slowly down her cheek where a piece of debris had sliced her skin. "Wait. I forgot. You don't have a soul. There is nothing within you that even resembles that."
