Driscol. . . Cass' brows furrowed. Suddenly her eyes widened. A face of boy who seemed her age floated to mind. A blast from a Light Angel had caught the boy. He was mutiliated and in pain. Ami couldn't have done anything for him, so Cass. . . She winced a the memory. . . . Driscol. . . Oh, god. . . He wasn't supposed to die. She slowly exhaled. I remember that boy. . .
She was thrown from her reminiscence when she winced as a piece of rubble ricocheted off the ground and smacked her in the back of the neck. She bit her lip to keep from crying out as more rubble struck her back and neck. Several smaller pieces found exposed skin, digging into her flesh.

Carwyn eyed the room again. He noticed chunks of stone still in the ceiling. In a swift motion he twirled the bo above his head, sending a small shockwave around the room. Rubble fell from the holes he had created, and several whole bricks fell from the ceiling. They crashed into places all around the room, clattering against each other.
"I will bring this whole room down around us if I must, human, and the next stone to drop will not be the size of a brick."

Down doesn't affect me, Angel, Cass thought. It's the up that I need to worry about. She rubbed her cheek against her shoulder and saw the proximity of the floor to her. Definitely the up.

Carwyn paused again. Dammit, he thought. Where could she be hiding?
With a frustrated grunt, Carwyn slammed the bo into the floor, bricks falling again. "THESE GAMES ARE NOT FUN, HUMAN," he bellowed.
Carwyn walked slowly through the room. He passed by the bed, neck craning to see into the mirror to check the doorway. He slowed and looked above his person at the sunlight pouring into the room.

Cass inhaled sharply as her head was slammed into the support board. Fuck! Her eyes watered and only moments after, she was peppered with more debris. Despite how she convinced herself she could last until the Angel left, her hands and feet were starting to hurt.

Carwyn sighed heavily, shaking his head. I may as well be yelling to the deaf, he thought. Carwyn took to the air and flew to the ceiling. He noticed a hole had formed in the ceiling. Hmmm he thought.
He again landed and grunted audibly. He stepped out towards the door leading to the exit, making sure to create noise with his footsteps. Just as he was to leave the room, he flapped his wings to create the illusion that he had flown off. With great skill he flew to the hole in the ceiling without making a noise, crawling inside and turning to look down upon the room.
Come out come out, human. Carwyn thought.

He thinks I'm some sort of child, Cass thought. As if I'd really fall for that sort of tri- The board supporting her hands cracked and split, dumping her to the floor with a crash.

Carwyn's attention snapped to the bed. He dropped from the ceiling and landed with a great slam next to the bed. He thrust his hands ahead of him, energy pulsating outwards, throwing the bed from its place on the floor and into the wall.
"What have we here?"

Cass lunged out with her feet as she lifted the rest of her body up by her arms, struck flesh, and pushed herself off of him. In haste, she tore out of the destroyed room, to her freedom. She almost reached the door when she was driven into the ground. A hand was forced behind her back. Don't let him pin you, don't let him pin you! she frantically thought. She thrashed underneath him, her baton striking tender nerve areas.

Carwyn winced as the baton struck against his body. He was unable to keep a hold of her body as she lashed out with the baton. A sudden blow glanced across his injured temple while pressure was being exerted on his wounded shoulder. In a cry of exasperation he felt his grip loosen.

Cass wasted no time in leaping to her feet. The ten feet to the door took an eternity. As she reached it, she flung it open and raced out into the barren land. The beating wings alerted her to the Angel. In the distance, she heard the familiar purr of the engine she spent hours meticulously built. Jack. . . An extra burst of energy found her, and she powered through her fatigue, through her pain. . .
And tripped.

Carwyn regained his composure and looked out to see the human exiting the door. An archaic rumble sounded through hallway. A motorvehicle? Carwyn inquired. That won't be a challenge to catch
He leapt to the air and almost immediately crashed back to the floor. He glanced behind him, and a knot tied itself in his stomach. She broke my wing, he thought as he winced in the newly-discovered pain. She broke my fucking wing! How dare she!
He hurled his arm outwards, tossing a small bolt of energy to the door. It was too late, however. She was outside of the cathedral. Carwyn hurled himself at the door, ripping it form its hinges. The sounds of angels surrounded him as he noticed the human's body sprawled on the floor. "KILL HER!" he thundered. With great diligence he walked out to the human's body. You will pay.

Cass swore and grit her teeth. I popped my ankle. I popped my ankle." Fear flooded her system and she struggled to pull herself to her feet. A hand reached down and plucked her off the ground.
"Cass, you are a wreck," a voice murmured. "Can you fight?"
"What took so long, dumb ass?" Cass berated, pulling out the daggers from the small of her neck.
Jack shrugged and pushed off, accelerating the motorcycle. He felt Cass turn around behind him. A thud seemed to echo in the valley.
Cass rested against Jack's back. "We're clear," she murmured. "I need Ami. . ."
Jack nodded stoically and altered his course. "You know. . . You look like shit."
Cass nodded slowly. "Yes. . . I'm aware." She slowly drifted off to sleep against Jack's back. "You would too, if you knew what I'd gone through. . ."

Carwyn tossed bolt after bolt at the motorcycle, barely missing the target from the short distance. He charged an orb in his hand but saw it was no use. He dropped to his knees on the weathered dirt, mouthing a single word: Asthore...

Jack shook his head as he felt her head thump against his back, the signal that she was asleep. I should have been there, he thought, focusing on the path to where Ami resided. Damn the Angels. . . He blinked. Oh, the cruel irony of this world. . .
