"Hi, Jacoby," Fiametta sighed as she slipped into her chair. "Will you be there tonight?"
"Yeah, I will. Is Nakari okay? He seemed pretty bad after last night." Jacoby's gloden eyes flitted about the classroom.
Fiametta started doodling in her notebook. "I'm not sure," she whispered. "We'll talk later," she said as Nakari stepped into the English class.

"What were you two talking about?" Nakari blandly asked, sitting beside Jacoby and behind Fiametta.

"Just wondering who'll be there tonight," Fiametta said as Jacoby slipped away into his seat.

Nakari shrugged. "Dunno."

The bell rang and Fiametta pulled out her book. It was a book bound in plain black binding full of the same words of every legal, non-Expendable, book in the world. The only difference was the time it took place, and the names.

~!!~
Kyra looked up at the sky as she walked home. So engrossed was she that she didn't notice when someone sidled up beside her. . .

"Hey, Kyra," Jacoby said, smiling. He held out his arms. "Do you want me to carry your books? I can walk you home."

Kyra tucked her hair behind her ear as she held her books with a single arm. "You look pretty loaded down yourself," she noticed, arching a brow.

Jacoby smiled and balanced his own books on his tail. "What load?" he asked misceviously.

She smiled. "I can handle myself, Jacoby. I have for a few years, now," she reminded him, as she always did.

"I can handle you, too. Have for a few years now." He chuckled and reached out kindly. "Really, though. You always carry your books home. Let me do it for a change." He looked at her with a smile pulling on the corner of his mouth.

She laughed softly before she bit her lip. "There's no need to weigh you down with this burden though," she said, looking down.

"No need. Plenty of want, though." He looked at her, a smile dancing in his eyes. "What'll it hurt?"

She looked him square in the eye. "My ego."

"Y'know, it used to be considered rude if a boy didn't offer to carry a girl's books," Jacoby said, still walking alongside her. "I wouldn't want to be a jerk, now would I?"
