"Oh, of course. I just wish they still allowed snowboards. Dad's ancient Burton got thrown in the fires of 68. He said those things just flew on the powder." Jacoby noticed his tail and brought it back around his own ankles where it was a little more... decent.

Kyra shrugged. "Well, they were probably deemed Expendable for a reason." She twisted her neck slightly, cracking all the vertebrae. She looked over to see Fi and her brother gone. Again. Her face twisted in disgust.

"C'mon. Like a piece of wood is going to end the world or something." He smiled, his tail flicking from side to side. Seeing her distaste, he said, "I know it's Expendable. Breakfast is almost over, we have to get to class. Bye, Kyra. I'll see you later."

She sighed and traced her fingers across the tabletop. "I shouldn't judge until I rid myself of this," she grumbled. As she stood, her hand smeared the frost design.

When she stood, Kyra turned right into Fiametta. "Hi, Kyra," Fiametta said with a smile. "What was that you were just doodling?" Fiametta stepped back a little bit and smiled. Nakari was standing off to the side a bit.

Kyra gave her a blank look. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she softly said before picking up her bag and exiting the cafeteria.
Nakari sighed. "Fi, you shouldn't bait her like that," he softly said. He rested a hand on her shoulder. "Come on. We'll be late for class."

"I know Nakari. It's part of my cover. It tears me to pieces trying to reveal powers..."

Nakari shrugged before he slung his arm around her shoulder. "Yeah. She won't admit she has it though. At least, not anymore."

"Why doesn't she? It would be so pretty. Does she use it in her art classes?"

Nakari shook his head. "It's her story to tell, not mine," he said cryptically. "If she ever decides to face it again, she'll come around. I don't want to impose anything on her, though."

"Right," she sighed. "I have to go," she murmured, slipping into Mr. Thompson's homeroom.

Nakari made a move to stop the girl, but she slipped just past his reach. Resisting the temptation to punch something, he made his way to his homeroom. Mrs. Kelly was absent from the room.

Mr. Thompson was a very interesting character. He still owned a pocket knife, and also had a skateboard hidden under his closet floorboards. He even rode the thing in the Under. Naturally, Fiametta liked him. So homeroom went without incident, and she was off to 1st period. Choir.

Nakari looked shiftily around the hallway as he eyed the doorway to the roof after first period. With purpose, he strode toward the unlocked portal, and ducked quickly through it. He waited for about half a minute, ensuring no one had seen him enter the stairwell.
He needed an escape at the moment, and the roof always provided him with that. The dark stairs continued for a time until he reached the open air of the roof. The crystal blue sky soared eternally above him, and blanket above his head. A brisk breeze ruffled his hair.
He sat down at the edge, behind the barricade, calm. A time later, he jumped when the squeaking of the door alerted him to another's presence. "Shit!" he muttered, knowing it was too late to hide.

"Chill, Nakari. You know I've got this period off." Fiametta sat next to him. "I'm sorry I put so much pressure on you last night. I didn't mean to hurt you." She looked at him with apologetic eyes.
