"How about we try to run it through from the top?" he asked, aware that James had become more tense. "Are you alright, Jimmy?"

"Yeah. Just a little on edge today. Not enough Starbucks this morning. Anyways, sure, let's run it through real quick." Jame said. He put his sax to his embouchure and prepared to play.

Leopold took a breath and they started off into the fast-paced intro of the six page piece.

James lost himself in the piece. Closing his eyes, his fingers trailed over the keys like a pianist's hands, confidently and deftly running over the mother-of-pearl inlays. Just as the key changed, however, James missed several notes and had to stop, laughing hysterically. Leo looked stunned.

"James? You're capable of laughing? Wow..." Leopold's eyes grew a shade lighter. They were now a deep violet. He smiled. "So should we work on the transition from [C] to [D], then?"

"Sure. Sounds good to me," James said with a rare smile still on his face.

They started off slower this time. Doing it over until they were at performance tempo. They finished off the peice with no more major speedbumps. They still had most of the class period left, and Leopold didn't really want to head back in yet.

Sabine sighed, and knocked on the practice room door. "Hey, you two. . . B.'s back. Can you even hear me?" She peeked in, and ducked back quickly, her face flaming. "Make sure you're decent before you come back into class!" she snapped before scurrying away.

"And that's how you tie a tie." Leopold glanced at the door. "What was she screaming about?"

"I'm not sure."
James opened the soundproof door. He glanced back towards Sabine, who looked up, blushed, and glanced away quickly. James walked out, adjusting the bright red tie around his neck until rested comfortably on his chest. He turned around and saw Leo grabbing the sheet music. James sat back down in his rehearsal seat to snickers around him. Oblivious, he readied his horn and looked up at Mr. B

Leopold chuckled. As he sat down and counted out his 16 measures of rest, he whispered to James, "You might want to fix your hair."

James glanced at Leopold, realizing what he meant after a brief second of incredulity. James hurriedly put up his hood and rubbed it furiously, causing a static charge to develop. When he brought the hood down, his hair was a static-mess. A quick hand motion and a hair-flip later, however, and it was back to normal. James's cheeks turned a scarlet as deep as the tie, and he sat there motionless, aware of the knowing glances being shot to him by his peers.

Leopold chuckled to himself as they went into the peice. Yeah, he's definately cute.

Mr. B opened his mouth to speak, only to be cut off by the bell. Band class was over, and everyone rushed to put their instruments back in their cubbies. James walked slowly out into the hallway, passing by people as he walked. He waved a casual goodbye to Leopold, James meandering towards the choir room. He passed by a few scuffs in the hallways. Girls agian, he thought. Can't live with 'em. Kind of can't live without 'em.

Leopold changed from tall and blond to the short blue-haired boy he was earlier. Thank goodness there was a bathroom inbetween the band and choir rooms. He walked in after James, smirking. The kid still hadn't fixed his hair in the back.
