Let's do a quick comparison between their most recent endeavor on "The Crane Wife" and see how it stacks up to the slight twist given on "The Hazards of Love". I'll pick my favorite track off of each album and let you guys do the thinking. The first track, from "The Crane Wife", is called "Sons & Daughters". It has a nice round in the chorus, which I absolutely salivate over. Its quite bright for its underlying meaning. www.youtube.com/watch?v=crJR-WJybNwNow this is the track from "The Hazards of Love", which takes such a drastic approach that both opposes and accentuates the style from Sons & Daughters. The "Oo-oo"s in the "Wanting Comes in Waves" portion of the track are awesome, and then the sudden change to "Repaid" (You'll know when it happens) is killer. Plus the female vocalist (a special guest) is astounding. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHrMkPol_6o&feature=relatedThey cranked the distortion, introduced some great guitar riffs, some harder-hitting vocals, and yet they still kept the underlying magic from the Crane Wife. They managed to introduce an entirely new style while maintaining the previously-rooted seafaring theme. It is nothing short of exquisite, as are the Decemberists.
