Sabine's off hour was at this time. With a yawn, she grabbed her sweatshirt after cleaning her oboe and putting away, and curled up in the hallway connecting the two music rooms. Within a few minutes, she was asleep to a Brahm's lullaby.

"I hate school dances," Leopold groaned.
"Well, you're going this time!" his mother shouted, breaking the noise ordinance.
"Fine," he muttered, walking out the door. "Just don't do it on my bed again..." he complained under his breath.

James walked into the gymnasium doors, grimacing at the loud hip-hop blaring out of the DJ's speaker system. Why do I even bother coming to these things, he thought. He glanced around the room, spying the wallflowers and outgoing kids alike crowding around the floor. Streamers and balloons adorned the walls of the gym, with fancy tables set out for seating areas. Chairs lined the walls, filled with kids twiddling their thumbs and looking expectantly out towards the dancefloor. James walked over to the buffet table and reached for a glass of punch. Cup in hand, he turned around and looked at the crowds of people again.

Sabine looked up, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "It's all ready weird that you make a point of finding me in the school," she said, "but now at the dance? What would you like?" Her smile softened, and her stomach fluttered happily about.

Nolan grinned, running a hand through his hair. "I'm chaperoning you, just making sure you dont do anything inappropriate," he said, trying to give her a stern glare. Which ended up failing. "So why arent you out there dancing with some guy? Having fun?"

She smirked. "Wasn't it you who told me high school boys are dumb?" she retaliated.

"Ooh, burn. Right. Well," he muttered over the thick beat of the bass in the song. He narrowed his eyes playfully. "What are you doing actually listening to me? I'm a teacher; it's against a student's nature."

She grinned malevolently. "You aren't a teacher yet though, Mr. Ross. You're still in college."

Nolan laughed. "Well, it's good to see your smartass gene still works," he said, smiling. He swept a glance over the crowd of neon-highlighted teenagers. "Mr. Fedner's got this place in shape I see. I guess I could take a break, for just one song. Wanna go have some fun out there?"

Sabine bit her lip and nodded before following him out to the floor.

James grabbed another cup of punch. You know, I'm starting to see why people like these dances, he thought. I guess just being here can make you feel a little less uptight
He sipped slowly from the cup as he noticed a familiar face from across the dancefloor.

Leopold caught James's eye for just a second. He made his way over to where the brunette was standing. He poured another glass of punch for the kid. "Hey, James," he said, offering the cup. "Didn't think I'd see you here."

"I wouldn't think I'd normally be here either" James said, "But I just felt like showing up tonight."
James took the glass of punch, putting his second empty glass for the night down on the table.

Leopold leaned down to ask James, "Would you like to dance?" just as a slower song started to play.
